If the news by Bernama is true, Sarawak will get another public universiti soon. The new university called Universiti Teknologi Sarawak is expected to be built in Sibu and will be focusing on technical courses.

The Sarawak chief minister is confident Universiti Teknologi Sarawak, to be built in Sibu, will provide opportunities, especially to those in rural areas, to pursue technical studies as a means to raise their income level.

Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had agreed to approve another university which offered higher education programmes in technical development, especially in the implementation of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewal Energy (Score).

“For Sarawak, the per capita income will rise far higher than the current RM45,000 by 2020, on condition the younger generation aspire higher in technical studies,” he said in a message, in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri here Saturday.

He has also sought the cooperation of universities from Australia, India and other places to set up technical study colleges statewide.

Apart from successfully setting up four universities in Sarawak, Abdul Taib said the government would also open more technical schools in the next 10 years.

With the establishment of Universiti Teknologi Sarawak will provide more opportunities for Sarawakian to further studies thus improve their economy. We hope the plan will success for the benefit of 1Malaysia.
