For MyPhD programme 1,200 applications were received and 672 of them have been approved. Each recipient receives a maximum of RM24,000 in tuition fees, irrespective of whether the study is done at a public or private institution of higher learning. Another RM5,000 is given as journal and thesis allowances. As to the MyMaster scheme, Dr Hou said, of the 8,000 scholarships made available this year, 2,802 were approved from a total of 5,674 applications received, due to the stringent selection process. The government had committed a total of RM2.6 billion under the 10th Malaysia Plan 2011-2015 for the programme to achieve the objective of producing 60,000 PhD holders by 2020. Along with MyMaster and MyPhD, Mybrain15′s two other schemes are the Industrial PhD Programme and Public Institution of Higher Learning Academic Training Programme (SLAI). |
