University of Nigeria Nsukka to Begin Masters Degree in Climate Change

University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, has concluded plans to run a masters degree programme on climate change at the post graduate studies school of the university, as the deans of faculties in the institution have all keyed in into the programme. In an interview during the 17th International Annual Conference of Agricultural Society of Nigeria, AESON, at the University of Nigeria, Dr Nicholas Ozor, a senior research fellow at the Africa Technology Policy Network, ATP, Nairobi and the linkage for the partnership between the institution and the UNN made pointed this out, saying that the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barth Okolo had been supportive and even provided funds for programme. Ozor explained that in partnership with the university, committee had started working to recommend relevant courses that would be taught for the master degree programme, just as the deans of various faculties had shared the draft curriculum with other stakeholders on the course, before approval was sought from the National Universities Commission, NUC. He further noted that the academic approach in dealing with climate change phenomenon is to mobilize agricultural extension agents, pointing out that no country across the world can toy with climate change issues.
